Uzumlu, called also Yesiluzumlu town, cosy, charming residental distinct located 20 km far away from Fethiye center. This town is famous for its olives, grapes and figs. In addition, the Morel Festival is held in this town every year in the first week of April.
This festival was started to be held in 2009 for the first time by Behçet Saatçi, the Legendary Mayor of Fethiye. The 3-day festival is very popular inside and outside the region. The purpose of the festival is both to get to know the region better and to introduce the tastes of the region and products specific to the region. On the first day of the festival, a welcome is made with drums, zurna and delbek. Delbek is a percussion instrument unique to this region. It offers a natural musical feast with the women of the region both playing and singing. Afterwards, the Municipality’s Marching Band takes you to another music festival, the performance of the folklore team consisting of students from the primary school of the town enchants everyone who attends the festival.
Furhermore, a painting exhibition and competition consisting of the pictures made by the students studying in the primary school in the town is organized. The festival continues unabated with the performance of the women’s folklore team of the associations. Morel mushroom soup which is also the purpose of the festival is offered to the guests by the municipality and sponsors.
You can also visit DASTARHANE which was established by the municipality to support women in the region and buy souveniers from handicraft. By the way, “dastar” is a kind of unique local fabric. The dastars formed by weaving this product on the looms made with natural materials at home reflect the motifs unique to the region. Dastar weaving, knitting and embroidery; It is made by people who have knowledge, skills and a unique artistic spirit and sense. So much so that this legacy continued from mother to daughter for generations. It still continues today, in spite of getting less. The festival aims to live the spirit the custom.
