GAZIANTEP CASTLE
Gaziantep Castle, which has a history of six thousand years, is on a hill to the south of Allaben Creek, watching the city with all its splendor. The castle, which has functioned as an observation point since the Roman period, regains its present appearance in the Byzantine period. The castle, which went through a detailed renovation during the Kanuni period, has 12 towers.
HISTORICAL TAHMIS COFFEE
The coffee house, which preserves its historical atmosphere to a large extent, is one of the places that should be visited in Gaziantep. If we talk about the history of the coffee house, we can say that it dates back to 1635. We recommend that you see the unique atmosphere of the coffee shop, which is still serving in the same building, and have a coffee break.
CHAIN BEDESTEN
If you like to shop in places with a historical atmosphere in the city you visit or live in, we recommend you to stop by Zincirli Bedesten. ZEUGMA MOSAIC MUSEUM
I wanted to start from a point where you can get the most comprehensive information about the history of the city. The museum, which had the distinction of being the world’s largest museum in its field until the Hatay archaeological museum was opened, has been welcoming its visitors since 2011. In addition to the first ages, works from the Roman and Byzantine periods are also exhibited. Mosaics cover a large part of the museum of 3,000 square meters. The construction date of the bazaar, where you can encounter the rarest and most special examples of copper work, is unknown, but when the architectural features are examined, experts think that it was built in the 1800s. Here you can both buy beautiful coppers and get information about copper processing at first hand.
ALMACI MARKET
With its 250-year history, the Almacı Market, the oldest bazaar of Gaziantep, is known by this name because only apples and pears were sold in the old times. Today, if you want to buy the ingredients that add flavor to the taste of the local cuisine, you can go to this bazaar. Here you can find spices, dried vegetables, fruits and herbs and nuts.
HISTORICAL CUSTOMS HAN
You can find the best examples of handicraft products here, as in the Coppersmiths’ Bazaar.
